How can I get videos off my Panasonic PV-GS59 and onto my mac computer?

I bought a Panasonic camcorder and was able to import videos from it onto my computer using a USB connector. However, this was on a windows computer. The Mac computer that I use now suggests using a firewire because it is not able to read the camera. Can I still use the USB (and I'm just doing something wrong) or should I get a firewire?

1. Get a firewire. The quality decreases using a USB wire. Firewires cost only about 10 dollars too

2. Even a Mac needs a firewire connection for video but I think they come with the port.

3. iMovie doesn't recognize USB connections, you need a 4 - 6 pin firewire cable.
