1. This all depends on what you are looking for within your camera and how much you want to spend. I own a Canon d50 and love it. To me it's a good weight and has the features I really wanted; high speed continuous shooting, good mega pixels (15.1) and easy to understand.

If you go on the Canon website you can look at all their cameras and they allow you to compare their features three cameras at a time.
