Which digital cameras are better for amateurs....Nikon, Canon, FujiFilm or any other brand ?

I am from India and my Canon digital camera is not working so I am planning to buy another one. Budget is not more than Rs. 7,000 /-. But I want the camera to last long. I want both still & video.

Please suggest..........

1. I prefer Canon for simple point-and-shoot digital cameras.
you really can't expect to be on a budget AND expect the camera to last a long time. you get what you pay for. And if you are a total amateur then perhaps you should buy a better brand to help you out a little?

2. Also Canon, Olympus, Pentax, Samsung, Panasonic, Sony. All those brands and your selection make digicams at various prices. Most do video as well as stills, but not all, so you need to check the specs on each camera.
