Are CANON digital cameras reliable & durable?
1 of my friends recommended a CANON digital camera for carrying it with me.
He said "CANON cameras are like the AK47s of the camera world. My CANON still shoots after years of wear & tear!"

1. i just got a canon sd1400 is
and i love it!
i had done some research and had asked all my camera savvy friends and they all pointed to canon.
so so far there have been no real big problems that i have heard of and yes i think they are AK47s in the camera world.
2. Canons are good, so are Nikons. My only suggestion would be get one with a viewfinder rather than one that uses the LCD display to focus. In bright sun the LCD is worthless.
3. Canon had a great reputation for cameras before digital was even thought of. I have an older Powershot A620 digital that still works great after 5 years. Keep in mind though that old 35mm film cameras were not as sensitive as todays digital cameras are. They could take tons of abuse and kept working. Digital cameras are mostly plastic and will not take a lot of abuse. Buy a small case to carry it in. With a little care, they can last for years.
4. You friend is right, I've also got Canon pocket size camera and I dropped it many times and it is still working great!
