which is better, canon or sony camcorders?
Public Comments
1. I prefer Sony bcuz I have sony cameras and camcorders
2. i will never trust sony again because my ps2 caused my whole house to burn down right after it got up and shot my cats. WTF, huh?
3. Both are excellent. Go to any professional sports game and look at the equipment the networks and photographers are using. You'll see Sony cameras being used by the television broadcasters, Canon cameras on the sidelines, and Canon lenses on some of the video gear. Both are industry giants and there is no right answer to your question. Does that professional approach apply to their consumer goods? Sometimes. But you also get what you pay for; the cheapest Canon or Sony will not hold up to more expensive gear from other manufacturers.
4. The question is actually... what do I want to do with it... both are on par... it may be the features you may want to think about... Suggest you consider:
1. if you want a camera which does everything for you or if you want control of the features and settings. If you want to control all the features and end up with a camera which does everything for you... that is not a great match.
2. consider what subjects you are going to be filming... some camcorders do great at the beach lighting... others don't -- some do great at Anut Tilly's dinner table [low light] others dont.
3. consider if you want DV tape, hard drive, DVD, etc... I strongly suggest using a DV tape... the other two are some what limiting in terms of storage time on a hard drive [what happens on the week long vacation and you fill up the hard drive mid way through?] -- Also, at the end, you have a storage cassette of your work... just put it away and get a new tape... no fuss no muss... unlike the hard drive.
4. Consider what you can connect to on your computer... if you have firewire connection [if you don't, I highly recommed you do get one] -- or if you have a USB2 or USB1 connection.
5. Consider what type of computer you have... some only connect to Windows box... so if you have only Linux, Mac, etc... consider this aspect.
6. Consider what quality you want... if you want to pay extra for the 3CCD or if you want HD features in the video you shoot. [If streaming on the Internet... HD is lost... but 3 CCD comes in handy] -- if you only watch on an old TV HD / 3 CCD is lost...
7. Consider your experience... if you are just starting out and want to learn what you are doing... get a cheaper camera until you have a sense of what you are doing and then ebay it and get a better camera.
Good luck.
