Are the latest Sony HD camcorders editable with Movie maker?
I know the early HD camcorders had the huge drawback that you couldnt edit the footage. The latest ones include what sony say is "video editing software" but can you save the HD footage into AVI, MPEG to then put into other software? Anyone got one? The camera im talking about are the latest ones such as the sr32 that came out about 2 weeks ago.

1. Are you talking about hard drive cameras or hi-def cameras? The SR32 is a hard drive cam, and is editable in movie maker, but more easily when converted to .avi. However, a miniDV camera sounds like a better choice for you because it offers the easiest editing and better quality than hard drive or DVD cams. Also, the tapes are fairly cheap and rugged, whereas a hard drive cam has the possibility of losing all the data if dropped or shaken. If you are talking about HD cameras, I'd suggest you to wait, unless you are producing videos/films professionally, or have a lot of money to spend. Currently, there is no way to play back your videos in HD unless you connect your camera to your HDTV, burn to a Blu-ray/HD DVD disc, or watch on your computer. By the time you upgrade all your hardware, newer models will be out. And as for editing, you'll have to spend at least $100 for a new editing program as Movie Maker can't handle HD. Hope this helps!
2. None of the Sony hard drive camcorders create files that are directly editable in the Windows XP version of Movie Maker. You would need to do some creative re-naming of the file or converting to another format in order to edit the footage with Movie Maker.
Windows Vista Movie Maker adds better support for these files, as well as adding support for editing HDV high definition video.
If editing in Windows Movie Maker is important to you, stick with MiniDV for the time being or you might consider an affordable editing upgrade like Pinnacle Studio or Roxio Easy Media Creator.
