How do I set up final cut pro to capture footage from my panasonic digital video camera?

I connected the camera with the firewire cable that came with it but the system keeps asking for "apple firewire pal"

1. Usually camcorders don't have firewire cables supplied with them, just USB cables.
Look in FCPs Help menu for troubleshooting guides if you are using a FW cable.

2. It sounds as if you have a connector missing. are you sure you have the right size firewall cable? wait you said it came in the box. here is a link to a website that has support for this stuff. good luck
