Best Subcompact Digital Cameras: Panasonic vs. Sony?

I am looking to purchase a digital camera for an upcoming trip and consumerreports.org recommended the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX30K (Top 3 choice); it has received a lot of reviews, but according to Circuit City it has been discontinued. Their next suggestion is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80; which is comparable to the Panasonic, but it does not have a wide angle lens.
I am leaning heavily toward the Panasonic model; but I wanted to get an opinion or two from people who might know something about these models or subcompact cameras in general.
Quick background: Small photography background, would use camera for social events and trips.

Sony: http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-W80-7-2-Megapixel-Digital-Camera-Silver-DSC-W80/sem/rpsm/oid/174206/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

Thanks for the help!
I'm going with the Panasonic. Too many positive features and its rated better than the models that came out 8 months later.
Thanks for the help!

1. Look here for another Panasonic ... they use Leica lenses .. a big plus.

If the Sony does not have the wide angle lens feature, then it is NOT comparable.

The Panasonic uses the standard SD memory card and the Sony a propriatary Memory Stick .. again not comaprable to the Panasonic. I wonder if the sales person at Circuit City was going to get a bonus for all the Sony's he/she sold.

BTW the camera you want may have just been out of stock. It is less than a year old and most compact digital cameras are made for at least a year to eighteen months per model. The next choice would be the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55. It too has the 28mm wide angle lens
