What are the benefits of adding a lens to a brand new Canon camcorder?

Its a new Canon Vixia HV-30 camcorder

1. If the HV30 zoom is not enough for you, then add the lens. The link you posted shows a 1.7x. The HV30 has 10x optical zoom. 10 x 1.7 = 17x zoom. Digital zoom is useless and should be disabled immediately.

If you are happy with the 10x optical zoom the camcorder has, then there is no reason to add the lens.
