How do you erase a tape in a Canon SR80 camcorder?

I have a Canon SR 80 camcorder and have lost the instruction manual. Does anyone know how you erase a tape other than to record over it?

1. You can go to the canon website to download your particular manual, but as far as I know (I have a canon camcorder) you can't erase, only tape over.
